Based on the field study carried out in Konya, this study attempts at understanding the role of religious values for the rise of new Muslim entrepreneur profile in Turkey. In other words, this study aims to understand the ‘economic ethic' of the rising Muslim entrepreneur profile and the factors that effected the ‘economic ethic' of them. In addition, the reasons of the absence of the development of a rational ‘economic ethic' in the classical Muslim world will be discussed critically by taking into account both Weberian and Rodinsonian thesis on Islam and capitalism. At the same time, this study tries to question not only the reasons of the absence of rational ‘economic ethic' in the classical Muslim world but also the factors that contribute to rise of a new entrepreneur profiles among the religious groups in Turkey after 1980's; thereby, it will become possible to determine whether or not these rising Muslim entrepreneurs indicate any ‘paradigmatic' shift from the ‘economic ethic' of traditional Muslim merchants and guilds. Therefore, the this study also includes an empirical analysis of the ‘economic ethic' and the religious values of the rising Muslim entrepreneurs in Konya.

  V(2) Güz/Autumn, 57-77

Our ethical approaches determine our relationships with the environment. For this reason, there are three basic approaches on relationships between human beings and the environment. These are anthropocentric, biocentric and ecocentric ethical approaches. Anthropocentric ethic tries to protect the environmet only for human beings. On the other hand, biocentric ethic includes the other living species within the ethical system. For the last ethical approach as ecocentrism totality of the nature and ecosystem must be protected. İn Turkey, the last two ethical approaches are not effective in political, administrative and juridical areas. Turkish people and system's approache to the environment still depends on protecting evironment only for human beings.

Eğitim Sahasında Türkiye-Özbekistan İlişkileri ve Bu Ülkede Türkiye Türkçesinin Durumu / Turk-Uzbek Educational Relations and The Situation of Turkey Turkish language in Uzbekistan

Beginning of diplomatic and political relations between Turkey and Uzbekistan after the collapse of Soviet Union and formation of independent states in ex Soviet Central Asia is common also with other Central Asian republics of Turkish origin. This period after independency over ten years, for the Central Asian republics' policy maker's conceptualization, with the advantage of common ethnical, historical origin, Turkey has been seen a attractive model how to integrate with modern world, western civilisation values, and liberal marketing system. On this context, Uzbekistan with over 23 million people, rich cultural heritage, both natural and especially subterranean energetical resources, seems to be a leading country and a key political actor in the region. From the beginning Turkey supported very forcefully to this process of integration with modern world all Central Asian Turkish republics. Soviet ideological propaganda, undoubtedly propagated and placed with political and administrative apparatus in peripheries displaced common “Turk/Turkish” origin concept to the “Turkish speaking peoples” in this region. This very important concept of Soviet ethnopolitics is applied for whole ex-Soviet republics' past. This conceptualization of Soviet era emerged and effected relations between Turkey and Central Asian republics by creating many tension situations in all aspects. Turkey's political and intellectual approach that contains, with nostalgia to past, as known close relations before and after the Bolshevik Revolution to the sovietisation of Central Asia, that feeded intellectually by the idea and as a political activity based on unity of common Islamic and Turkish cultural, lingual, historical unity. This political approach is conceived like an enterprise of hegemony of Turkey on the region by Uzbekistan and brought a new, but disturbed period in Turk-Uzbek political, economical and cultural relations. Within the last few years, it seems that Uzbekistan preferred United States and European countries as a diplomatic and political via economical partners rather than Turkey. But in the Turkish side, post-Soviet era conditions created and continued to create to develop and enforce relations with Uzbeks. But is this a one-siding effort? In Uzbek context, although Turkey lost chance and possibilities of building Turkey Turkish teaching centres, lycées (colleges), and student exchange, we has had more chance for creating academicals and intellectual interrelations between Uzbek and Turkish counterparts.

Key Words : Uzbekistan, Turk-Uzbek relations, education policy in post-soviet era, Turkey Turkish teaching policy in Uzbekistan Türkçesi.
