As a reflection of the "New Right" Thought in Public Management, "New Public Management Approach
Gonca Bayraktar
This paper argues that New Public Management (NPM) cannot be treated as a coherent school of thought. It starts with the definition of theory and the emergence of theories in the field of management science. Then, it deals with the orthodoxy surrounding the NPM. The paper argues that the NPM has its roots in several theories -public choice theory, the new managerialism and neo-Taylorism- which encompass vastly different assumptions and approaches. It is, thus, inherently contradictory and inconsistent.
